The problem

My wife umpires netball. The job happens standing up, in bad light, with the game refusing to stand still, and the record of the match lived on paper and memory. Existing apps were built for people sitting down.

What I built

A native iPhone app that follows her workflow rather than a feature list. Prepare the match beforehand. Run the clock. Score live with targets big enough for cold hands. Track the centre pass, which is the thing umpires most often lose. Make corrections deliberately, so a slip of the thumb does not rewrite the score. Share a clean match record at the final whistle.

Haptics do a lot of the work. Courtside, you cannot look at the screen for long, so the phone confirms through the hand. That design decision came from watching the job, not from a spec.

What you can see

The live scoring screen, the match record and the match statistics on the public site.

The result

The app ships and is used courtside. AI helped me build it, but no model runs during a match: the intelligence is in the design of the interaction, and the runtime is a fast, reliable native app.

What's next

Android, now in beta by invitation.
