The problem
The annual governance statement is usually written from memory against a deadline, so it lists meetings rather than saying what the board found, owned and changed.
What I built
A tool that drafts the statement from evidence the board has already produced that year: approved visit reports, completed checks and submitted Headteacher Reports. Each section shows the evidence it is drawn from. The board then adds what only it can explain, what governors challenged, decided and followed up, and can edit any paragraph.
Design decisions
Nothing reaches the statement without a person. When new evidence arrives, suggested wording appears beside the current wording and is only applied when someone chooses it, with an undo. Adoption is a deliberate act: the board records the meeting date and minute reference, and the exact saved statement is frozen as the adopted version. Revising it starts an amendment, so no edit ever changes an adopted statement quietly. Private evidence is left out of the text prepared for the website.
What you can see
The adopted statement in Word and PDF, website-ready text, and every earlier adopted version.
The result
The statement becomes the board's own work written down, instead of a blank page filled in from memory.
